71% Interesting Belgian blond von Saxon
On opening, this had an aroma of spicy and sweet sugary malt. The colour was quite dark and it had medium/high carbonation.
The introduction was quite balanced.
Whilst the sweetness found in other Belgian blonds was there, it is relaxed and accompanied by a spice body that has a subtle bitter edge which, on finishing, pleasantly lingers in the mouth.
There was an additional, slightly sour fruit note that adds interest.
Perhaps not as complex as the big brand Leffe, it's preferable as it lacks the high sweetness of that beer and overall is quite nice and interesting with its sour fruit/dry bitter edge.
